The president of Zambia has denounced a Hollywood actress for writing a “falsified” memoir, which he claims has tarnished his country’s reputation.

Louise Linton found herself at the centre of a global social media storm after she published a controversial account of the six months that she had spent in the southern African state in 1999 as an 18-year-old volunteer.

The former pupil of Fettes College in Edinburgh wrote of how she feared she would be raped or murdered by armed Congolese rebels who had streamed over the border.
