Several hundred demonstrators gathered outside the Royal Liverpool Hospital this morning in protest at the funding crisis hitting the NHS.
Councillors and MPs joined trade unionists and members of the public as part of a co-ordinated national day of action on the NHS.
Protesters braved the chilly weather to line up outside the entrance to the Royal and wave placards, with many passing motorists on Prescot Street sounding their car horns in support.
Among those present were the Mayor of Liverpool Joe Anderson, along with Metro Mayor candidate Steve Rotheram, and fellow Liverpool Labour MPs Luciana Berger and Stephen Twigg.
Mayor Anderson told demonstrators: “This is our NHS and it needs fair and proper funding in order to survive.”It’s our job to make sure people pay attention and listen to our concerns.”
