“Pray the gay away” conference coming to local San Diego church in June. Protest in the planning stages.
San Diego Gay and Lesbian News broke the story about the large conversion therapy conference coming to the city in June.
There are new developments about the protest being planned by a local entertainer and LGBT ally Lilly Holiday and Kickxy Vixen-Styles.
The conference being held by Restored Hope Network (RHN) will take place on June 16 and 17, just a few miles north of Mission Valley at The City View Church located at 8404 Phyllis Place, San Diego, 92123.
Lilly was outraged by the convening and quickly put out a call to action for protest which she titled “Big O’ Gay Anti-Conversion Therapy Protest.”
Contrary to popular belief, this type of therapy is legal in California to anyone over the age of 18. But Lilly is concerned with youth and the influence this group will have on them whether they are forced to attend with their parents or seek out the meeting just out of curiosity and shame.
“San Diego will not stand by as these provenly harmful scam artists prey on LGBTQA youths,” she wrote on the protest page. “They are not welcome in this city…”
Over 650 people have already signed up for the protest and the meeting scheduled on Monday, April 10 at 5 pm will hammer out some of the details.
The meeting will be held at the Unite Here building located at 2436 Market St. in San Diego.
The doors will open at 5 pm and the meeting will start at 5:30 pm.
