MONROE – The bad blood between two leaders in Monroe is heating up once again and this time one of them is making accusations of possible assault.

Monroe Town Supervisor Harley Doles and United Monroe leader Emily Convers are no strangers to being at odds with one another. This time, Doles says Convers threw some sort of liquid in his face that caused him blurred vision and eye pain.

However, Convers says that’s not the case. “A little water on his leg and now he’s claiming that hes somehow hurt by this,” says Convers.

The incident allegedly happened at the Monroe Senior Center in February. Convers, who is scheduled to be arraigned on harassment charges in May, says the accusations are retaliation for her efforts to remove Doles from office.

Doles has been at the center of controversy for years, especially over supporting plans to expand the Hassidic Village of Kiryas Joel. He also accused a board member of beating him in town hall.

The case against Convers will move to Newburgh Town Court to avoid a potential conflict of interest.
