Meek Mill supporters marched through the downtown streets of Philadelphia on Monday (Nov. 13) to demand the rapper’s release from prison. Rallying outside the Criminal Justice Center, the crowd was calling for his sentence to be overturned.
The Philly native has gotten widespread support since it was reported that he’d been sent back to prison for 2-4 years after violating his probation. Among those on-hand to voice support for Meek Mill were his labelhead, MMG president Rick Ross, and Philadelphia 76ers legend and NBA Hall of Famer Dr. J.
As “Free Meek” chants began throughout the crowd, Dr. J quoted the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr: “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.”
“We’re here to support my brother, Meek Mill,” Ross said. “I want y’all to understand that if it take Meek Mill to draw this attention, we’re gonna use Meek Mill to draw this attention, but it’s gonna speak for so many others.”
In addition to the rally, an online petition pushing for Meek’s release now has over 350,000 signatures.
