Paedophile hunters protest against naked family swim day

Paedophile hunters have staged a protest against a nude swimming event open to adults and children of all ages because ‘children can’t give their consent’ and ‘could be scarred for life’.

The session for all age groups was organised by British Naturism who say the annual event is ‘carefully managed’.

However, protesters gathered outside Waterworld in Festival Park, Stoke on Trent, on Saturday evening, arguing that the session should be for over 18s only.

Many campaigners feared that paedophiles could be present, Stoke on Trent Live reported.

Approximately 20 protestors, some in branded t-shirts, arrived outside the site at 7pm, standing close to the entrance.

Two of the protestors, Natasha Whitlock and Susan Quinn, from Facebook group Paddy’s Exposure, were the first to arrive.

Natasha Whitlock, aged 59, from Telford, said: ‘It’s a peaceful protest. We’re from the Facebook group Paddy’s Exposure which was set up to expose peadophiles.

‘There’s going to be quite a few people coming and possibly some paedophile hunters.

The owner a water park which is set to hold a nude family swim session has labelled criticism that the event could attract sex offenders as 'scaremongering'. Mo Chaudry said Waterworld in Stroke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, had been 'unjustly accused of encouraging paedophiles'. Caption: Mo Chaudry, owner of Waterworld in Stroke-on-Trent, Staffordshire

‘We are just going to stand and protest against it because it’s wrong on so many levels.

‘I know people who were able to buy tickets online and no background checks were done. Not all paedophiles are convicted.

‘It’s exposing kids, anyone can buy tickets online and CCTV cameras won’t pick up everything.

‘If my children were young I’d never take them to a nudist swim, it should be 18 plus because the children can’t give consent. They will be scarred for life.’

John Lawrence, who had travelled from Oldham to protest against the event, said: ‘This shouldn’t go on. It’s children, our children, and we don’t want to expose them to this.

‘We don’t know what background checks are being done to check the sex offenders’ register, and I don’t see how they can check their history.

‘I’ve not been here for long and there’s been half a dozen men go in on their own.’

The owner of the water park, Mo Chaudry, had previously hit out at the criticism that it ‘would encourage paedophiles to attend’.

He described a petition by campaigners calling for the event to be cancelled as ‘scaremongering’ and said it was not his duty to be ‘judge and jury’ when ‘no laws were being broken’.

Mr Chaudry also claimed that far-right protest group Britain First had been handing out inflammatory flyers and some staff had even been subjected to ‘personal abuse’ over the session.

Peter Wright, manager of the legal department at British Naturism, defended the event, saying every member of the group is strictly vetted and those on the sex offenders’ register cannot join.

He said: ‘We have 9,000 members – an increase of 1,000 people since last year – and no-one who is on the sex offenders’ register is permitted to join.

‘Each year, we hold six or seven events and each one is a chance for like-minded people to get together and enjoy themselves.

‘Naturism is a philosophical belief in a natural, naked lifestyle, a healthy, wholesome lifestyle shared by millions in Britain and in Europe.

‘The events we hold are very carefully managed. There is always a safe-guarding officer at the swims and we work very closely with the police.’
