CPI national secretary K. Narayana and 30 other party activists were taken into preventive custody by police in front of the office of All India Trade Union Congress at Himayatnagar on Thursday when they tried to stage a march wearing black dresses in protest against bungling of Intermediate exam results.
A large police force was deployed at the spot as there was no permission given for the demonstration but the CPI activists surged forward to break the cordon when they were arrested and shifted in waiting vans.
Giving sound bytes before the crowd was shifted to Narayanguda and Musheerabad police stations in waiting vans, Mr. Narayana alleged that the suicide by Inter fail students amounted to murder committed by the State government.
He also said influential people in the government had a hand in the award of data processing work related to exams to Globarena Technology Private Limited.
Mr. Rao criticised Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao for going on pilgrimage to temples in Tamil Nadu and Kerala at a time when students who failed in exams committed suicide.
He demanded ex-gratia of ₹ one crore each to the families of students who died and government jobs to a member of the family.
City secretary of CPI E.T. Narasimha and AITUC State general secretary V.S. Bose were among those arrested.
